Memory Path Monday

The memory path is short today. It leads to yesterday's church service and two quotes that stood out to me. Those quotes have captivated my memory and thoughts this afternoon.

1. "When we concern ourselves with the things of Christ we gain victory over our past failures, present challenges and future worries." ~ Pastor Michael

2. "We don't decide how much time we get, but we do decided how we spend that time." ~ Pastor Michael

This will be the last blog post for a little while. I'm going to take a break from the virtual world and immerse myself in the real world more than I have as of late!

What DID I do before there was E-mail, Pogo, YouTube, Facebook and Blogger??? I need to focus more on God, my family, my friends and my health.

Maybe I'll play a board or card game with the kids or read a book together as a family. Maybe I'll get that cupboard organized or that bedroom closet cleared out. I might even finish that afghan I've been crocheting for our bed.

There are lots of places I could volunteer my time to help out (i.e. the schools, the hospitals, ect. ect.)

Maybe I'll go for a walk more often, instead of reading blog after blog about other people enjoying walks with their family and friends.

I think I'll participate more often in that all but forgotten mode of communication known as, 'Snail Mail.' Then I can eagerly await the Mailman's arrival, instead of rushing to the computer to see if someone commented, 'Liked' my update or sent me a message or E-mail.

Maybe I'll read my Bible more often or pick up a good book and actually finish it. I could get 'Persuasion' completely read before our next Jane Austen book club meeting in February.

Maybe I'll even take a trip or a hike in the mountains somewhere with my family. You never know what each day could hold there is a world of possibilities just waiting to be explored.

Yes there are lots and lots of things to occupy my time other than sitting on my already too plump rump surfing the web!

Don't get me wrong, I think the internet is a lot fun and a great way to keep in touch with people you don't see daily. I really enjoy reading and writing blogs, keeping abreast of what my friends and family are doing in their daily lives on Facebook and playing online games. But . . . I just need a break, a time to regroup and refocus on what's most important.

God only gives us so much time here. None of us knows the hour we'll be called home. Our Pastor shared a story of a man who had figured out how many Saturdays he had left in his lifetime, based on the average life expectancy of an average man. I don't remember the figure exactly, but it was somewhere around 3,000 Saturdays.

The man went out and bought marbles and placed them in a jar on his desk at work. Each marble represented one of those Saturdays. After each Saturday had passed, the man would take a marble out and chuck it in the trash can. He explained how sobering it was for the man to see his life passing by. To have that visual reminder of a jar slowly emptying.

As the jar got lower and lower, the man learned to slow down and enjoy his life more. Finally, the man was in his 70's and had reached the age expectancy to which he based his marble count by. When he reached in the jar for that last marble, he figured every Saturday after that was a bonus.

I want to enjoy each and every marble of my life, figuratively speaking that is. So I'm off to enjoy it, computer free for a while.

When I come back I should have lots of stories to blog about and share on Facebook too!

So until later . . .
