It's time to report in.
Since warding off the internet last week, I haven't done any life altering things, no earth shattering accomplishments; and I didn't make it very long! I think a total of two days is how long I lasted on my internet ban! I am so weak! No wonder I'm over weight. I have zero will power. My will power is not only non-existent in my eating habits but it's obviously non-existent in the rest of my life too! This is something I really need to address.
Banning the internet proved to be a great idea that was very hard to execute! I think trying to give up the internet actually consumed my thoughts more, than using the internet did in the first place! I found myself constantly in a state of wonder. Wondering what was happening in my friend's lives, what new blogs were posted and wondering how many e-mails I had; and how I would EVER weed through them all when I again resurfaced.
E-mails reproduce like rabbits, I swear! Where do they all come from? Okay, I know where they come from but you get the point. I can get a bazillion e-mails over the course of a day. Ignoring them for more than a day can pose quite a challenge afterward. An almost insurmountable task of filtering through 100's of e-mails. Not a task I really wanted to do. So I have to admit I caved and checked e-mail right away; and was inadvertently checking Facebook because of the FB e-mail notifications. So really, my internet ban was a total flop! I am a hopeless addict.
What I did do, is make sure checking e-mails, Facebook, reading blogs and writing mine didn't consume a tremendous amount of time. The internet really never kept me from what was important, i.e. family, friends, chores, ect. ect., but I wanted to make sure it never did either. I wanted to be more conscious of how much time I spent online. As they say, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
It may have only been a two day internet ban, but I did do something new during those two days. I learned how to play Chess.
My oldest son, Zachary, took the time to sit down and teach me how to play. He had wanted me to play Chess for a week and I was reluctant. I really didn't think I was smart enough to play. I ended up winning the game by capturing his King, but it wasn't a fair win. I had only won because he revealed his strategy to me. He realized that I was floundering and not playing very confidently or strategically. I did gain a bit of confidence and learned some strategies. We have planned a rematch. I'm hoping to remember everything he taught me, then maybe I can win fair and square!! Maybe I could even check the 'internet' for a few new strategies of my own. Then, if I win, I can teach him something new about the game of Chess!
It's good to be back online and I'm working on a post for tomorrow.
A friend of mine has composed a list of 20 things she wants to do or accomplish by the time she turns 40 next year. She got the idea from a friend of hers who wrote her own list of 40 things by the time she was 40. Time constraints made my friend shorten hers. But she is also working on list of 50 things by 50!! She figures 10 years should be plenty of time for that.
I really liked the idea and so have decided to write a list of my own. I have exactly 18 mo. and 28 days to complete said list! I guess I'd better get started on writing it because by the time I post it tomorrow I'll have 18 mo. and 27 days in which to complete it.
I love a good challenge! So until tomorrow, adieu!
