An original poem by Michelle L. McCarty:
Searching for Patience
Everywhere I can
Is it under the bed?
It's not in my hand
I can't find it anywhere
And It's driving me crazy
I need to find Patience
To take care of my baby.
Searching for Patience
Up high and down low
It's not to be found
No matter where I go
I need to find it
And find it I will
Sometimes I think Patience
Should come in a pill.
Searching for Patience
Today like before
I sure didn't find it
Knocking at my door
Where could it be hiding?
It's hiding so well
Sometimes I wish Patience
Had some sort of smell.
Searching for Patience
I've got to be closer
It wasn't in the fridge
And I didn't put it in the toaster
It's got to be around here
Somewhere I know
I had it before
Before I let go.
Searching for Patience
Under the couch
Is that it over there?
Oh no! That's a mouse!
What about there?
Behind the dust bunnies
Or under the chair
This sure isn't funny.
Searching for Patience
Maybe it's here
I just have to sit
To think
And think clear
I think I've found Patience
It was here all along
I sat for a moment
Then I listened to a song.
Searching for Patience
I found it right there
It wasn't under the couch
Nor behind the arm chair
It wasn't in the fridge
Or the toaster either
It didn't come to the door
Or under the bed neither
It was planted in my heart
By God himself
I just had to take it down
Take it down from its shelf.
