Thrifty Thursday, #10

It's my favorite time of the week, Thrifty Thursday.  The day I get to share with you all the little trinkets and treasures I've found while thrifting.

I didn't thrift a whole lot this week.  Actually, just today.  I went to two Goodwills and came out with a few treasures that  I can't wait to incorporate into our house.

Today's total spent was $18.02, a little more than I wanted to spend.  I was hoping to stay around $15 or less, but I found a few unexpected goodies.  I'm done thrifting for the week!

I did save more on my purchases by using a $5.00 Goodwill coupon and by finding a few treasures on sale by their colored tags.

Here are my thrifts for the week . . .

A nice Harrod's money box tin, a ruler with Apples on it, a small craft bird and an adorable Hallmark Cherished Teddy Bears friendship book.

The Hallmark book folds out like an accordion and has the most darling pictures on each section.  It talks all about the things that make a good friend.

I love ANYTHING Hallmark!

With all the flutter over Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding tomorrow, you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across this adorable money tin from Harrod's, Made in the United Kingdom.

Side Note:  I'm very excited to see the Royal Wedding.  But . . . tomorrow is WAY more important than the Royal Wedding, to me, for one VERY special reason.  It is my onlyest dad's birthday, April 29th.  Happy Birthday, Dad!  I love you!

I think the tin is really cute and I'll use it to save my change in.  Who knows!  Maybe I can save enough change, over the years, to take a trip across the pond.

Visiting England, Ireland, Scotland and well the whole United Kingdom is a dream of mine!

Look at these beauties!

I've been searching for a set of Pyrex coffee cups for a long time now; and at the price I wanted to pay.

This set of 4 was only $1.00, at .25 cents a piece.

What a DEAL!

A few pieces of cobalt blue glass.  Nothing old or fancy, but I like them.

Isn't the little fishy just darling?

I love this peach colored porcelain and metal rose piece.  It is so delicate!

I can't believe it made it through a Goodwill box, on to a truck, into a sorting center, on to another truck, to the store and on to the shelf WITHOUT a single chip!  Amazing, if you ask me.

The little peach bird is one of those crafting birds you often see in the nests hanging on a wreath.

I loved him and have the pair sitting on our entertainment center.

It looks quite nice there!

Speaking of "pair," here is a "pear" for my incredible UN-edible fruit basket!

What is a day of thrifting without finding a piece of plastic fruit?  A bad day of thrifting, that's what!

But NOT today!  I found a piece of plastic fruit.

Your probably saying to yourself, "Michelle, you need another piece of plastic fruit like you need . . . "

I know, I know.  But did you really think I could pass it up?

NOPE!

It's beautifully situated in the fruit basket on our table.

The Inspections Officer was REALLY getting on my nerves today.  By the sight of his blurry swishing  tail in the background, I'd say he was pretty annoyed with me too!

The plastic pear is holding up a piece of wood that had the cutest little saying on it.  Too cute to leave behind for  just .50 cents.

"Come in, sit down, relax, converse, our house doesn't always look like this, sometimes it's even worse!"

Let me tell ya', never was there a truer statement than that.  When you come to visit next time. . . think about this sign.  It speaks the truth!

The little ceramic duck was hand painted by someone, somewhere and I think he's very sweet.  The cashier said she wished she had found him.  I offered him too her but she said, "No, that's okay.  But thank you though."

I really like this little planter.  I think I'll plant a little houseplant in it and see if I can keep it alive!  The plant that is!  Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha . . .

I love the little jar, too.  More for what it holds than anything.

It has sand from the ocean in it.  I've never been to the ocean, so I thought this was pretty neat.  It's like a little ocean beach in my living room!

I think these busts, of a little boy and girl, are my favorite find of the day.  They were priced at $3.00 a piece.  The most expensive things I bought.

They are made of porcelain or bisque, not sure, or is it bisque porcelain?  Either way their just lovely.  I can't wait to put them on our bookshelf in amongst the Jane Austen books.

Don't you think they would look just lovely amongst the Jane Austen books?

I think so!

The marking on the bottom says:  Made in Japan.

It also says National Poetteries Co. Cleveland, OH.  Interesting.  I don't know anything more about them, other than I like them . . . A LOT!

Toby was living dangerously today!  He really honked me off here and made me very nervous!

I just envisioned my favorite purchase of the day crashing to the floor into a million little pieces.

He is one lucky cat that THAT did NOT happen!

I have always liked wooden hope chest boxes, the little ones that are usually given out with the purchase of a full sized hope chest.

I have mine and I have the one that was my Grandma Richhart's.  I use them to store my treasures.  The kids love it when I get them down and show them all the little treasures they hold.

These two new ones, are in really nice shape!

The bottom box doesn't have any markings on it.  But someone has placed a music box inside of it and made it so that you can wind it up from the bottom and the closing of the lid turns it off.

This is the inside of the lid of the top box.  It is a Lane cedar chest and still has the key inside.

This one is just like mine and my Grandma's, except, I don't have the keys for the ones I already have.

Above is a video of the bottom chest's music box playing.  I have heard the tune it plays, but can't think of the name.  Does anyone recognize the song?  If so, leave me a comment and fill me in.  Pretty please.

  2. Hey Michelle - I'm pretty sure I got a small Lane cedar chest for graduation from MHS. From Mishawaka Furniture maybe? I have no clue why they would give us those. I do still have it and use it. Weird, huh. The smaller one you pictured looks like it might be one of those.
