Thrifty Thursday, #8

Hello again!

It's Thrifty Thursday and I have a few treasures to share with you.

I love the pressed flowers encased in this plastic plant stand or trivet.  Just .50 cents at the Goodwill.

I'm using it for my spider plant my friend, Rita, gave me a start of.  It was pretty tiny when I got it.  Amazingly, it has grown quite a bit!

I'm NOT known for my "green" thumb with indoor plants.  It's a miracle this one is still alive!

For a $1.00, I got this Pyrex fridgie.  It doesn't have its lid, but I still like it.  I can put pickles in it for hamburgers or olives for tacos!

I'm a sucker for frogs.  My entire bathroom is decorated with the slimy fellows.

They have such character!

Spent just $1.00 a piece for these cute bunnies.  The larger one looks so cheerful, doesn't she?

She has her pocketbook like she's off for an afternoon of thrifting, just like me!

This little bunny's name is Totty.  He looked so sad and lonely.  I just had to bring him home.

Once home, I wasn't sad!  I found out "Totty" is quite collectible.  He's worth much more than the $1.00 I paid for him.

I'm still doing research on his value, but it's over $20.00--I can tell you that.

Another Hallmark Betsey Clark album for $1.00.  This one is a calendar and greeting card organizer.

It was missing the greeting cards, but I can supply my own.

A few more poetry books.  I just love this Jimmy Stewart one.

His poems are so funny and who doesn't LOVE Jimmy!  I mean really, who?

Vintage Peter Pauper Press cookbook from 1956.

It is chock-full of delicious sounding desserts and poetry!  Makes me love it even MORE!

Last is my purchase of 5 Salesian poetry books.  The pictures and poetry are very similar to the ideals magazines I featured last week.

These are some of my favorite types of books.

I got the 2 separate ones for .99 cents a piece.  But wait . . . they were 75% off.  Holy smokes!  Then the boxed set of 3 was $2.99 with 50% off.  Holy smokes again!

What a deal.

I bought all my poem books out at Better World Books.  GREAT place to get GREAT deals on gently used books.

If you don't live in the Michiana area, you can shop online.  Just click their name above, to visit their website.

That's my thrift finds for this week!  See you next time.

Each week I link up with:

  1. Wow Michelle. Nice find on the bunny. What are your favorite shops locally, I wonder? Do you have one favorite or do you try them all?

  2. Jen, I'm primarily a Goodwill shopper. You can definitely tell that some Goodwills get better stuff than others. I like to make a big loop and hit several in a day. I might start at Ireland Rd., head to Grape Rd. and then out to the Granger Goodwill. Or, I'll do an Elkhart Goodwill day. Start at the one on 33, then head to the one on Johnson St. and finish up on C.R. 6. I also make trips out to the South Bend Goodwill on Western. I don't go there very often but it is a good one, because it is a distribution center. I am not very fond of our local Salvation Army stores. In the summer time I like yard sales and garage sales. Sometimes I'll watch Craig's List for Estate sales too. Estate sales are great. I really feel like I'm on a treasure hunt. Because you never know what's going to be in the Goodwill or what you may stumble across at an Estate sale. It's just chance really and a good eye. I'm trying to read up on collectibles so that I may be able to resale and turn a profit on some of my finds that I am willing to part with--which aren't very many, as I tend to love everything I find. I get good deals on clothes for myself and the kids at Goodwill. Name brand stuff for a fraction of the cost. It may take several trips to find it though. That's the down side to the thrifting. You're not always guaranteed to find what you want, like you would in a regular department store. But I love it. I love to find great things, fill my cart and then look at all the beautiful things that were hiding amongst the disorderly shelves of gobs of stuff. Sometimes things smell and need to be cleaned, but that doesn't bother me either. That's what my washing machine and these two hands are for. My grandma was a thrifter and I got it from her.
