It's hard to believe it's Thursday already. Where has the week gone?
I went to a few garage sales on Saturday and Sunday. Then earlier this week, I stopped in at a Goodwill or two. I found several things at really good prices. Spent just a smidgen and walked away with some sweet treasures.
Here's this week's thrifty finds. . .
Christopher, my youngest son, and I snuck off to a couple garage sales Saturday morning. Pete was working overtime and Zachary, my oldest boy, was sound asleep. With summer vacation in full swing the kid stays up all night and sleeps until 1 p.m.
Chris and I headed to a neighborhood sale and at the first house I found this rooster wall hanging; and the hen wall hanging pictured below.
The colors were perfect for my kitchen and I love barnyard animals. But you already knew that. I have them hanging over the doorway in to the kitchen. They look really nice.
Because we went to the last day of the sale, the sellers were offering everything at 1/2 off. Boy was I excited! So instead of $1.00 a piece, they were just .50 cents each. What a bargain!
At the same sale, 1/2 off, I picked up two of these bobble head roosters. Chris put one in his bedroom and I have the other one in the kitchen. They bobble really well and had us cracking up! Each one was marked .50 cents but with their awesome 1/2 off deal, we only paid .50 cents TOTAL for the pair.
At the Goodwill, on Monday, I found these beautiful wooden apples and the one plastic green apple. I picked them all up for $4.00. Not too bad.
You know by my Amish people that I love cast iron items. This is a cast iron spoon rest and I really like it. The red color is coming off the edges but it was only $1.00 and I thought it was worth it. I've been using it on the stove top.
I was so excited to find this! It was at the 1/2 off neighborhood garage sale house.
Another of the Hallmark Marjolein Bastin pieces. I've never seen an egg before and I love collecting eggs. I plan to share my Holly Hobbie egg collection when I start my blog posts on all the things I collect.
This is one of my favorite things from the weekend. Chris and I stopped at a yard sale on Jefferson. It was a really tough one to get into because the traffic on Jefferson is horrible. But we managed to get a spot to park and take a peak.
I collect tin cans, again I'll share that soon, and this is the style I collect. They have a frosted look to them. Being the bird lover that I am I was tickled to find this can. It has a Tufted Titmouse, a Gold Finch, a Carolina Wren and a meadowlark on it. Just a lovely find.
The only thing I didn't like was the price of $1.50, but I wanted it so badly that I paid it. I was really wishing I would've had Pete with me. He is NEVER afraid to offer less and I am always apprehensive too. Oh well.
Hallmark has a way with cuteness, don't ya think?
I loved this Christmas greeting card that is a puzzle. I look forward to sending it to some friends who have a little one. I think their daughter will really enjoying taking the puzzle apart and putting it back together again. You can't beat that for .50 cents!
This is a beautiful table runner that has lovely embroidery on it. I thought the colors were so pretty and the needlework well done. It was in really great shape!
This is another table runner, not in such great shape. I loved the embroidered squirrels, but the linen they're embroidered on has a lot of stains. I'm not sure how to get them out. Any suggestions?
Here is another embroidered table runner, with a floral design. Again, I just loved it but it is full of stains as well.
There were two other ones but they have the nastiest stains of all and I didn't want to take pictures of them. If anyone has any tips on removing stains that have been in linens for a long time, I could use the help.
Well, that does it for another Thrifty Thursday. Thanks for stopping by!

I love the spoon rest you found, practical and good looking. I'm looking forward to you posting about your collections, I've started to do a little of that too x
ReplyDeleteI love the red spoon rest. And the Marjolein Bastin egg is beautiful, especially the blue. I gravitate toward her cards whenever I need to send one.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the squirrel embroidery! I don't know how to clean embroidered pieces as I'm always afraid by soaking the whole thing, that some of the threads may bleed. I've read that some use an Oxy soak, but I don't know if that's for embroidered linens, too.
I'dl love you to share any tips you get about this as I, too, like to collect embroidered and vintage linens.
