| My beautiful mother. |
A Daughter Remembers
ideals magazine
When first our eyes did finally meet.
You smiled at me so warm and sweet
And held me long, close to your heart;
I felt secure right from the start.
You watched me toddle cross the rug.
Then clapped and caught me with a hug.
It wasn't long before I knew
The comfort I would find in you.
And with school's first, uncertain fears,
You calmed me, blinking back your tears.
You waved 'til I was out of view
To meet a world entirely new.
How steadfastly you sat by me
When childhood ails brought misery.
You nursed me back, with a strong will;
You saw me through each passing ill.
Though in my youth I could not see
How deeply you still cared for me.
There was no doubt I knew it all
At seventeen, no longer small.
Much older now, it's all so clear
How you stood by from year to year.
Dear Mother, come and sit by me,
Your little girl and proud to be.
