Welcome to my place. Grab a cup of coffee, a sweet dessert and sit a spell. I have lots of show and tell to share with you today.
I think I'm an addict or something. Maybe I have hoarding tendencies. I'm not quite sure. But whatever it is, I sure do love rummaging through items, searching for treasures at any garage, yard or rummage sale, flea markets, Goodwill and Salvation Army stores.
I think it's time I share one of my MANY dreams with you.
I have always wanted to live on a farm way out in the country and have a big ol' barn that I can fill with wonderful vintage pieces. I think I'd like the back half of the barn to be my storage, sorting and hoarding area. Then in the front half of the barn, I want to transform it into a quaint little antiquey thrifty resale shop, open only on Fridays and Saturdays. I'd like to have tea and coffee available and maybe fresh baked cookies, too.
Now you know the "why" behind the "buy." Here's this weeks treasures.
This darling Hallmark Photo Album caught my eye right away, at the Goodwill. It was only $1.00 and in fair condition. It has a few tears in the cover and there is some writing on the inside. But that's what white out is for.
I really have to get around to sharing my Hallmark Children's book collection with all my Thrifty Thursday readers. They're sweet little books chocked full of sayings and pretty little drawings like the one on this photo album. I love them!
This is my FAVORITE purchase of the past weekend. I went to a Lutheran church rummage sale and came across this picture for $5.
When I walked up the hallway--gazing at all the beautiful paintings--I turned to see this handsome Schnauzer who bore an uncanny resemblance to our late dog, Max. I burst into tears, right there in the church!
Right after we had moved into our new house, my husband brought home a Schnauzer named, Max. He was already 7 years old and had been through several homes before ours, his soon to be forever home.
(To this day, for the life of me, I have never understood why anyone would give him up. He was the sweetest and best dog EVER! He gave hugs, he would play and bound around like a gazelle, he marched around the yard like a patrolman on duty and had a touch of Italian in him too. He LOVED spaghetti night. His beard was always orange, afterward.)
We had Max for the next several years, until he passed away in 2009. I loved that dog more than I have ever loved any dog. We all did! See, I'm a cat person and it took a very special dog to win me over.
This picture--done in 1977--looks JUST like our Max! That's why I cried.
The picture has a special place of honor in our living room; and he is watching over our family. The best $5 dollars I've EVER spent.
More enamelware!
I was tickled to find these two vintage tea pots, water kettles, whatever you want to call them. The larger one has a cute picnic scene on it and is from the 1950's. I picked it up for $6.00 at a lovely garage sale, just the other day.
The red one is stamped Japan on the bottom and I found it at the Goodwill for $1.00. I think they will look very nice on a shelf with the other enamelware pots I have. Pete's going to put shelves up that go around the whole perimeter of the kitchen. I can't wait to fill them!
My favorite thing here is the green metal wall hanging of a girl doing laundry. I have already placed it on the wall in my laundry room. It makes me smile whenever I go in there!
The trivets are wonderful. I found the Wilton heart one at a yard sale for .75 cents. The funny thing about it is, it still had an antique mall tag on it that said $18.00. So you can imagine how happy I was to have paid .75 cents, instead!
The other trivet I picked up at the Goodwill for $1.00 and I love what it says:
"A wifely job's no cinch--at times it leaves me cross--but I kinda like my job. Because I kinda love my boss!" Isn't that GREAT!?!
More and more enamelware. I was really excited to pick this trio up at the same yard sale I got the tea pot at.
The set was $8.00 and there were 2 bowls and a large tray. Can't you just picture these full of yummy cookout foods? I sure can potato salad, pea salad, veggies, meats, cheese and crackers.
These will be wonderful for a backyard party!
A few pieces of cobalt glass. None of these are real cobalt, but they were very inexpensive at $.75 cents to a $1.00. I think they catch the light just as well.
The enamelware bowl I have had since last Memorial Day weekend. But since this post is heavy on the enamel, I thought I'd throw it in for good measure.
I have acquired quite a fascination with these busts. I picked up two other ones last month, you can check them out HERE.
The newest one is the green one. I got her at that terrific yard sale I've been telling you about. She was only $1.75! Love her.
The white one I found at The Salvation Army for $1.53 (strange price) but I'm not complaining. They will go well with the other two on our bookshelves. Someday, that is.
Pyrex, PYREX and MORE Pyrex! I love Pyrex items.
Here I found 2 Federal Eagle mugs, a spring blossom 1 fridgie, a butterprint bowl; and the real kicker (welcomed surprise) here, is the white and blue summer impressions mug. See the reason that is a kicker, is I traded one of my mugs recently and this was a nice replacement for just .50 cents. Yeah!
I also picked up a Wilton Bless This House bread plate for .75 cents at a garage sale!
More Pyrex and a Fire King casserole dish. The Pyrex creamers are the blue snowflake pattern.
I thought I should add that, I've been taking photographs on top of a vintage tablecloth that I picked up at a yard sale for $4.00. It is a large square one with a very nice kitchen scene in browns, yellows, greens and white.
A cute set of knick-knacks that match our living room colors and a Glassbake milk glass coffee mug. It has a nice little saying on the back:
"In the Language of Flowers, The Daisy is the symbol of Sentiment."
For .50 cents, at a yard sale, I found this Marjolein Bastin Hallmark piece. I love her artwork with all the nature and birds!
Lastly, is this proud Avon rooster. He may look a bit familiar. I found one just like him a few weeks back, you can see him HERE.
But like the summer impressions Pyrex mug, I had recently traded him. So you can imagine my excitement when I happened upon another--and with its original box even! He cost me a $1.00.
