Welcome to Thrifty Thursday, edition No. 12.
Now I have to confess, I fibbed last week when I said that I would post photos of my recent thrift finds in their forever home around my house. I just didn't get to it this week and, honestly, thought it might be boring idea since you've already seen all the treasures anyway.
Pete and I did squeeze in a couple hours of thrifting this week and we found a few things. Nothing spectacular or to write home about, but treasures just the same.
Pete found a couple things he was very happy about, too.
Here's this week's haul. . .
I was excited about this large serving platter! My favorite part is the lovely apple and grape design, it fits right in with my kitchen theme.
I also found several new glasses for just $1.25 total. This was a good thing since I've been on a glass breaking binge. Slippery little suckers when wet, on top of being a Ms. Butter Fingers in the first place.
The vinegar decanter was a nice little find at .50 cents. I plan to use it for syrup. My boys are very messy and I'm hoping this will help prevent some of the messiness. Fingers crossed, that is!
The glasses I picked up were all different patterns. I love mixed/match glasses.
My grandmother always had character glasses and odd designs in her cupboard. So I tend to do the same. Whenever I open my cupboard and see all the different glasses I think of grandma's house!
For .50 cents I got these sweet little kitty cats. I plan to put them on a bookshelf--once I find one I like at the price I want to pay--somewhere near the cat fancy books or maybe a copy of Puss-n-Boots.
I loved the little wooden acorn salt and pepper shakers. I didn't need them, but they were just .50 cents for the pair. I have 3 or more sets which means I official have a 'collection.'
I don't know what's up with my fascination with glass grapes, but I seem to be drawn to them. I've been looking for the right color for some time now and was happy to run across these.
This little pitcher set fits in nicely with my collection. I can't wait to display all my pitcher sets, cobalt glass and figurines once I find a curio cabinet.
I've been searching for a specific type of curio cabinet and, hopefully, I find one in my price range. I keep looking at used furniture stores and antique shops. I want one of those curved glass, rounded type. I love them!
Also pictured, is a precious tin can identical to one I already have. I use them to store my greeting cards, playing cards, note pads and the like. They're good for that!
I almost didn't buy these plastic fruit baskets. They were at the Goodwill and they had 10 of them. But the only problem was, they had them priced at $2.00 each. I did NOT want to pay $2.00 each. However, I caved and bought this pair.
I'm looking forward to going strawberry picking now! I can also use them to collect my tomatoes out of the garden this summer. They'll definitely get used!
You might have noticed my UN-edible strawberries in the above picture, but here's a close up anyway. My plastic fruit bowl is getting pretty full and I love it!
After finding these sweet little berries, the only UN-edible fruit left to find are some cherries. So the search is on! Once I find some plastic cherries my UN-edible fruit bowl will be complete.
I love the prices for books at the Goodwill, especially when they are running a sale. I found several ideals magazines and a few poetry books too.
There's just something about poetry that I really enjoy. The poem books I usually gravitate to always have lovely pictures to go along with the poems. If I'm in a down mood all I have to do is pick up one of these books, read a few pages and my mood has changed.
I'm going to need to read The Lazy Gardener very soon. With the limited space to garden in my backyard and the presence of a very destructive ground hog, I need all the lazy, easy wisdom I can get.
If it's a puzzle with birds on it you can bet I'm interested! This 1,000 piece puzzle was a risky purchase. I had no idea whether all the pieces were there, but for just $1.50 I had to take my chances.
While watching The Biggest Loser the other night, I sat and counted all the pieces.
Guess what?
Drum roll please . . .
They were ALL THERE!!!!!
The Goodwill had these 80 ft. rolls of Reynolds Wrap foil, with 5 ft. extra in each, for just .75 cents a piece.
My friends, that's what I call a DEAL . . . or a STEAL!
I also got a Wal-Mart reusable shopping bag complete with stuff sac and carabiner for just .50 cents. I believe they are regularly $1.99 or something like that.
Pete tried to snatch on to it but I wasn't about to let that happen! This is going to the grocery with me!
Speaking of reusable grocery bags check out the news report about the cleanliness or lack there of, of our reusable bags HERE.
I found it very interesting, indeed!
Last but certainly NOT least, is my husband's thrifty find of the week; and let me tell ya' he was pretty stoked about it too. He picked up this $35.00 dollar Speed Stackers game for just $1.50, at the Goodwill. It had all 12 cups, a working timer and the mat to play on.
Pete is all about ANY game where you are timed on how fast you can do something. He is using the timer for the Speed Stackers game to time himself while solving his Rubix Cubes too!
The cups for the Speed Stackers are GLOW-IN-THE-DARK.
I tried to get a picture of the cups ALL-A-GLOW, but it didn't turn out. I'm definitely NO professional photographer, I'll tell ya' that!
