Five Minute Fridays: Mirror Image

Every Friday I link up with The Gypsy Mama to participate in Five Minute Fridays.  This week's theme is:  When I look in the mirror I see . . .

For 5 minutes you just type, no editing, no rethinking.  You type and then you post it.  It's 5 minutes of uninterrupted, unworried about writing.  Flowing straight from your heart and onto the screen.

If you would like to participate in Five Minute Fridays here's what you have to do:

1.  Visit The Gypsy Mama blog to find out what the Five Minute Friday subject is.
2.  Write for just 5 minutes and publish your post.
3.  Link your post to Gypsy Mama's and invite others to play along.
4.  Then follow the links to read all the wonderful 5 minute posts of the day.

So, without further adieu, here I go.

When I look in the mirror I see. . .

START

Hazel eyes and brunette hair.  I see a girl who has turned into a woman.  I see an overweight, insecure woman who tries desperately to find her confidence on a daily basis.  Looking into a mirror and saying what I see isn't easy.  Especially, since I could live in a world without mirrors.  One where what you look like had no bearing on who you are.

I've spent a lifetime worrying about what I look like.  I've always struggled with being overweight and have been a yo-yo dieter my entire life.  So when I look in the mirror I don't always like what I see.

But if mirrors reflected souls, you would see a a happy soul.  One that is in love with Jesus and her family.  I sometimes picture myself like a caterpillar all wrapped up in a fat cocoon just waiting for the beautiful butterfly inside to emerge.  I know she is in there, my soul feels beautiful, it's just the vessel that isn't so pretty.

My reflection has changed recently.  My brunette hair is turning gray, my hazel eyes are getting is little lighter.  I see wrinkles where there once were none.  All outward signs of my ascent towards 40.

When I look in the mirror I see someone who is happy to be alive.  She is happy to explore this wonderful and beautiful world God has given us.  I see a woman in love and a woman who is scared, yet excited too.  Excited for what each day holds, but scared of what might be around the corner.

STOP

Thanks for joining me on my 5 minute Friday!  What do you see when you look in the mirror?  Join us and tell us all about it.

  2. Well it's been a busy week for me - but I finally got over here - and am so glad :)

I think this was a fascinating topic for the very reason that most of us seem to struggle with similar insecurities as women. I am so thankful, though, that as believers who find our worth through Christ, we are free! Yaay for unconditional love...now if we can just get the hang of accepting ourselves unconditionally we'll really be gettin' somewhere :)

Hope you have a wonderful Monday, Michelle!
